The Rationale
The Award was established to support the theatrical release in Italy of films of high artistic and cultural merit that promote an inclusive, sustainable, and humane perspective on both people and the environment.
The Selection
The award is given to a film selected from among 12 titles chosen by the artistic direction, drawn from the four sections in competition at the Venice Film Festival: International Competition, Orizzonti, International Critics’ Week, and Giornate degli Autori.
The juries
The award is presented by a jury of three intellectuals and artists selected for each edition. Starting in 2023, the official jury will be joined by a youth jury.
Architecture
The winning film will premiere in four Italian cities (Milan, Rome, Siena, Palermo, Naples) with the support of MYMOVIES, in collaboration with leading cultural institutions.

In addition to being a beautiful film, it is a work that, at this moment, transcends any single, off-the-cuff judgment. We left the screening as if we had just attended a collective funeral, and it was the same for everyone in the theater. The film confronted us with our own powerlessness, and it did so with unsettling simplicity and through novel and compelling means of expression.
Silent friend
The film reinterprets and updates everything we think we know about the relationship between humankind and nature. It is astonishing—both for what it focuses on and for the way it does so. A secular liturgy in which science and wisdom, heart and knowledge merge in the name of something higher: the hope for a new form of communication among beings, the search for a new meaning for humankind’s continued existence on this earth.
Straight circle
A story that succeeds in creating a space for critical reflection on a system of violence and oppression that confines the individual to predetermined roles. Only through our experience with others is a path to liberation revealed to us, despite the burden and historical responsibility borne by the parties involved. The film stands out for its direction, which fully exploits the potential of cinematic language and opens the door to numerous interpretations.
