A project on the relationship between film and inclusion
An annual series of in-depth events organized by Isola Edipo in collaboration with Giornate degli Autori and with the participation of the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, dedicated to the relationship between cinema and inclusion through encounters with some of the leading figures in international cinema. Each year, one or more works by the featured artist are selected and presented alongside a masterclass for an audience of students, members of the press, and festival attendees.
Memories for the Future
"Cinema of Inclusion" returns with a special edition dedicated to the power of the visual arts in shaping resilient imaginaries.
One of the festival’s main events is back: “IL CINEMA DELL’INCLUSIONE TRA VISIONE E FORMAZIONE” (Cinema of Inclusion Between Vision and Education), organized in collaboration with Giornate degli Autori and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, which has been a partner of the project for five years. Dedicated to exploring the relationship between cinema and the contemporary world, this year’s edition of “Il Cinema dell’Inclusione” is titled: “MEMORIES FOR THE FUTURE - The Role of Sources in the Cinematic Construction of Individual and Collective Narratives.”
This year, the participants will include Lebanese director Mohamad Abdouni, Italian director Costanza Quatriglio, and Franco-Senegalese director Alain Gomis, who will engage in a discussion with Italian director Alina Marazzi.
This year’s conversation explores cinema as a language capable of writing and rewriting stories and identities—both individual and collective. Particular attention will be given to the role of sources—including archival materials, official historical documents, and oral testimonies—to cinema’s power to bring erased stories back into the public consciousness, and to the dynamic relationship between personal experience and collective memory in the construction of narrative.
In an era marked by a hyper-contemporary reality defined as “post-truth,” we will therefore explore the possibilities, functions, and responsibilities of cinema in the construction of portraits of a personal, familial, and communal nature, highlighting the value of memory in this process.
"Cinema of Inclusion Between Vision and Education" returns this year, creating a space for dialogue and in-depth exploration that brings together some of the most important contemporary filmmakers to discuss cinema’s relationship with—and role in addressing—some deeply contemporary and essential issues.
Conceived by Isola Edipo and organized in collaboration with Giornate degli Autori and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, the initiative stands at the intersection of artistic vision and educational goals
Through screenings, debates, and multidisciplinary discussions, "Il Cinema dell’Inclusione" aims to open up new avenues for reflection and inclusion, reaffirming the central role of art in reimagining our shared future while recognizing the importance of its stories and our own.
The event will take place on September 4, 2026, at the Sala Laguna: a space curated by Isola Edipo and Giornate degli Autori, dedicated to film screenings and discussions in the heart of the Venice Film Festival.

Morzaniel Ɨramari
Yanomami Cinema · in collaboration with Fondation CartierOne of the first Yanomami artists to venture into filmmaking. He trained as a filmmaker through the Video nas Aldeias (Video in the Villages) Project, a Brazilian NGO dedicated to strengthening the rights of indigenous peoples through audiovisual production. In his most recent film, *Mãri hi – The Tree of Dream*, he presents the Yanomami’s knowledge of dream interpretation through the words of the great shaman Davi Kopenawa, alongside an evocative and poetic depiction of the forest.
Soundwalk Collective & Patti Smith
Correspondences · 2024 EditionAn ever-evolving project: for over ten years, it has traversed geographies and natural environments, following the sonic trails left by poets, filmmakers, and revolutionaries, and exploring the impact of climate change. At Isola Edipo, the pieces “Pasolini” and “Medea” become audiovisual journeys through cinema and poetry.
